From the front desk of our Whitney street office, we see the traffic whip by and halt through the day, busy students, and people hustle off to work, and of course the trees. They bud, bloom, and change beautiful, warm colors before they fall. Almost as fast as those leaves dance into the streets, the temperature is dropping. We trade in our shorts for sweaters and brave the cold as all New Englanders do, but just because the temperature is going down shouldn’t mean your heating bill should have to go up! Here are 5 Hot Tips to keep your home cozy and your wallet fat!
Throw caution to the wind, and throw some RUGS down! Just as we bundle up ourselves, try bundling up your home! A great way to stop heat from escaping the room is with rugs and carpeting. If you have hardwood floors, a fashionable throw rug may make all of the difference in your bill, without breaking the bank. Trap that heat in with just the right balance of style and comfort.
Feng shui away the shivers! Make sure that all of your furniture is moved away from any vents or sources of heat. For getting the maximum amount of heat possible, you have to make sure that the heat you are getting isn’t being blocked by any couches, chairs or pillows. Now you’re really getting the most bang for your buck!
Save while you sleep! Before you head off to sleep, make sure that all of the shutters, and blinds and shut for the night. Personally, I love to watch the rain fall while I got to bed, but some nights, it’s just not worth it for the wallet. Keeping curtains closed, cuts down the cold from coming in vastly! You’d be surprised just how much it will make a change.
Hello Sunshine! Piggy backing off of the last tip, keeping the windows open when the sun is shining will warm up the room and your attitude. A little natural sunlight will really heat up the home, especially when it is in direct sunlight. Just be aware when the sun goes down.
No catchy title here, Just seal up the leaks! This tip goes without saying. Baby, it’s cold outside, so any leaks that you feel a draft coming in through, just seal that deal. Make sure you ask you landlords before using caulk on anything. A lot of people will use saran wrap on windows that do not need to be open.
